I Said Too Much In Text Messages

Dear GirlShrink,
I recently mis-interpreted my guy’s text message as the start of an arguement and sent him two lengthy texts to try and resolve the issue later in the day.  I just think things can get misunderstood so easily in a text message and didn’t want him to be mad at me over something stupid like that. The next day his answer was: “Well I’m not mad but stop trying to to read too much into things.  During the week I just get busy.”

What I want to know is what’s the smartest thing for me to do here in smoothing over this situation completely?  I feel like it should be to just sit tight and let him be the next one to speak or call, or whatever.  However, I feel a little stuck, what’s the best way to NOT blunder into a classic girl-type mistake here?

Dear Text Message Girl,
I think I a missing a few pieces of this story. I’m not really sure what kind of relationship you have with this guy. Is he your boyfriend? Are you casually dating? Did you just kind of meet? The kind of relationship really determines how I would guide you to solving this issue. But — I think the bottom line here is I probably would squash it. Not really talk about it again unless he brought it up and move on. Call him (if that’s what you normally do) and just ask him what’s up, how was his day, etc. Regular stuff. I think you both said quite enough on the cell phones and then later about the messages. Just move on.
