Dear Girlshrink,
I am 17 years old and i weigh only 35kg and my height is 4.9ft. I’m so worried i tried a lot of medicines and excercises but it never supports my growth. i’m the first daughter to my parents and my younger sister who is 12 years old is fat, good looking, and even taller just as me…people who see us consider me as her younger sister..pls help.. i really need a change from all this..
Dear Little One,
You don’t really need my advice, you just need to take a practical approach to this. You go see a physician and perhaps two to be on the safe side. See what what they say. If your growth is perfectly normal for you age etc. ( you might just be on the low end of the scale), then you know that you don’t have a REAL medical problem. You just have a self-image issue. And that is overcome as the years go on. You will begin to realize that there are much bigger things out in the world to be upset by. The fact that you are small will not impede you from being whoever it is that you want to be in life. There are people who are happy, in relationships, with successful careers who can’t see, hear, walk talk.
While I cannot offer you immediate relief, I know that you are 17 and you want the pain you are feeling to stop right now — what I can tell you is that you have to focus on the things about yourself that you do like. For instance, you are small, no doubt you can fit into the coolest pair of skinny jeans. Just get them hemmed by your mom or a tailor. They will look great.
If you like your hair, focus on that. If you are smart – then focus on that. If you play the piano then do that. Find out what you’re good at and what things you do like about yourself, no matter how small, and redirect your energies on those things.
In the meantime – ask your parents to take you for a physical just to make sure things are okay.
