I Don’t Know Who My Baby’s Father Is

Dear GirlShrink,

I am pregnant. About 13 weeks. And I have no idea who the father is. I am in a relationship, a serious one – but I saw my ex at a friend’s house and we got together that night for I guess “I miss you sex”. It was just one time – although I gotta say that I miss him. I think I love both of them and I am really upset about all of this which can’t be good for the baby. What should I do?

Dear Anonymous in Texas,

Well – this is more of a question for a medical professional. Because I would think the first thing you want to do is find out who the baby’s father is! And there may be a way to test paternity prior to birth – although I wouldn’t think that that is the safest option. It’s probably better to wait until the baby is born and you can get a blood or DNA sample from the baby. But again – I’m no doctor.

What I can say to you is that you need to quickly figure out who you are in love with – if anyone – and figure out how you are going to create a great life for your new son or daughter when he/she is born.

You have some hard decisions to make and some tough talks to have with two potential fathers – but I think if you remain focused on what really matters (your baby) then you will be able to get through the tough parts of this time in your life.

Remember — it will NOT always be this bad. Things have a way of always getting better when we set our intentions on a positive outcome.
